Winnemucca Main Street Corporation is proud to announce that we have been awarded a $45,000 grant through the Nevada Main Street Program to fund a comprehensive downtown beautification initiative along Historic 4th Street. The grant, administered by the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED), will support streetscaping improvements, new pedestrian amenities, and wayfinding signage designed to draw visitors deeper into the heart of our commercial district.

This is one of the largest single grants in our organization’s history, and it represents a major vote of confidence in the work our community has been doing since our founding in 2019. We could not be more grateful — or more motivated.

What the Grant Will Fund

The beautification project will be completed in two phases over the next 18 months. Phase one, beginning this spring, focuses on the 4th Street corridor between Melarkey Street and Winnemucca Boulevard. Planned improvements include:

  • New decorative planters and seasonal flower installations at key intersections
  • Upgraded pedestrian lighting along a four-block stretch
  • Installation of six new bench-and-bike-rack clusters in front of participating storefronts
  • A new wayfinding signage system guiding visitors to parking, public restrooms, and key downtown destinations
  • ADA-compliant curb ramp upgrades at two intersections in partnership with the City of Winnemucca

Phase two, planned for fall 2026, will extend the streetscaping to the cross streets and add a public art installation developed in partnership with local artists and Humboldt County high school students.

Why This Matters for Downtown

Research consistently shows that the physical appearance of a downtown corridor has a direct impact on foot traffic, business revenues, and property values. When visitors and locals feel welcomed and oriented in a space — when a street is inviting rather than just functional — they stay longer, return more often, and spend more money with the businesses they find there. This grant lets us invest in the experience of walking down 4th Street in a way that will benefit every storefront on that block for years to come.

“This grant is a direct result of the credibility our organization has built through years of consistent, community-driven work. It belongs to everyone who has shown up for Winnemucca downtown — our volunteers, our donors, our board, and our business owners.”

How to Get Involved

We will need volunteers during the spring planting installation weekends — expect to dig, plant, and get your hands dirty alongside some great people. Volunteer sign-ups for the beautification project will open in April. In the meantime, the best thing you can do is spread the word. Share this post with your neighbors, your employees, and anyone who cares about what downtown Winnemucca looks like for the next generation.
